The first espresso machine goes all the way back to 1822 when it was invented in France (not Italy). Today, though, I am writing my own review of the DeLonghi ESAM3300 so I can answer my own question and help out the rest of you. The reason that people pay so much for this machine is that it is worth it.
Let’s start with the way it looks. Quite simply, it is elegant and looks modern and sleek on my kitchen counter. Its stainless steel and black finish clearly show its Italian styling. But that’s just the beginning. I’m going to start this DeLonghi ESAM3300review by stating flat out that it’s one of the finest kitchen appliances I own. Let me explain.
It is push-button simple. You press a button and it produces flawlessly delicious expresso – just like that. It has a 7.5 cup water reservoir and a tank to hold your fresh whole coffee beans. When you press that button it will grind the beans, brew the espresso and even froth the milk. It has every feature imaginable. But no review of the DeLonghi ESAM3300would be complete without describing the taste. How do they say it in Italian? Delizioso!
Granted this is just my opinion, but I have to say that the coffee you get from DeLonghi is every bit as good as you get from Expobar, Rancillo, Jura or some other super-high-priced machine. Plus, it is easy to clean. Whenever you think it needs cleaning, all you have to do is pull out and wash the brew mechanism. This is important because a machine that’s hard to clean won’t be cleaned as often and it will be reflected in the taste eventually. With DeLonghi you don’t have to worry about that.
One final observation before I conclude my DeLonghi ESAM3300 review. The machine itself may be somewhat expensive, but you should consider the alternative. If you love high quality espresso or cappuccino, consider what you would have to pay to get a cup every day from Starbucks or some similar place.
With the DeLonghi ESAM3300 I get mine each day at home for free – and it is a fashionable, stylish and extraordinarily well made conversation piece for the home to boot. I highly recommend it.

I would probably be careful about that because of 2 things. Sometimes machines like this are designed specifically for certain things and it could get clogged or ruined if you use something other than it was designed for. Also, flavors – you might accidently use something that could ruin the flavor of the real purpose for the machine if you use something difference. I actually had that happen with a coffee grinder I used for something else one time. Never did get the other flavor out.

I had a cheap Melitta before; and now have a DeLonghi Magnifica 3300 which is unbelievable! It has a water reservoir and a bean reservoir; grinds beans fresh for each cup. In addition, you can make multiple cups, without waiting for the machine to “cool down” (a con with cheaper machines). It has a great frother too; and a reservoir to hold use grinds, so you aren’t emptying them after each cup (another con with cheaper machines). … Check out the stats for the Magnifica 3300. Yes, it’s pricey, but you can find it New on eBay (with warranty & still in box), and it’s rated the highest of just about any other machine…….

If you buy ground coffee at the store, it is typically ground for a paper cone filter. That will not be a fine enough grind for your machine. How is the regular ground coffee cheaper? Just curious here. I work in a coffee shop, so I haven’t actually purchased coffee in years. If all else fails, get the regular ground and tamp it harder. And, just FYI, a blade grinder will not yield a fine enough grind for espresso. A burr grinder is the only worthwhile grinder.

Coffee Semifreddo “Drowned” in Espresso: Affogato al Caffe Recipe courtesy Mario Batali
6 cups coffee gelato
1 cup espresso, or strong coffee
Cooled Coffee Cream Anglaise, recipe follows
Unsweetened cocoa powder, for dusting
In 6 tall glasses, place one scoop of the gelato in each. Pour the espresso over the ice cream, and then the coffee cream anglaise. Dust each with the cocoa powder. Serve immediately.
Coffee Cream Anglaise:
1/4 cup sugar
4 egg yolks
1/2 cup milk
1/2 cup heavy cream
1/4 cup strong espresso
In a bowl, combine the sugar and the yolks until smooth. Add the milk and cream to this and stir thoroughly. Pour this mixture into a small saucepan and cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture coats the back of a spoon. Add the espresso and stir completely.
Pour sauce in a bowl and place over another bowl filled with ice and water. Cool completely and serve.

If so the machine may be OK, but you are probably using stale, pre-ground coffee
get down to your local gourmet coffee roaster & get them to grind you some freshly roasted beans

The loveseat is really pretty mix of brown/tan/olive, woven in a very tight, small pattern so that from a distance, the couch just looks medium brown. The other couch, the longest one, has a tan pattern on it that I’m looking to cover at some point w/a slipcover, just not sure what color would be best. Things on the wall are temporary right now, as I’m redoing that part, too.

Wall 1 = TV wall unit
Wall 2 = Loveseat and two end tables on each side
Wall 3 = Large couch
Wall 4 = Window and the front door, no room for furniture there
What color would be best for an accent color? Should I use it on the curtains, or throw pillows, or accessories in the room – where is the best placement of the accent color you suggest?
